Holiday Lovies for your Baby

The holidays are a busy time of the year and can often be stressful for your baby.  To help ease the madness of the hustle and bustle, it is important for your baby to have lovies so they have a sense of comfort and security.  Often times, blankets or stuffed animals are used and carried many miles to grandmother's house they go.

What inspires your designs?

The FLATOUTbear and FLATOUTbearbaby is a classic design and never goes out of style or out of date – simply it’s a much loved teddy bear

 What color do you love right now?

Sunshine yellow as for the FLATOUTbears, I can’t go past the milk FLATOUTbear.

What are you currently reading?

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris –hilarious!

How would you describe your own personal style?
Vintage maximalist. I love old furniture and homewares that tell a story.

What is your favorite city/location/destination?

I will have to say Sydney, Australia. The prettiest city in the world! My home town.

What’s your favorite find right now?

A fabulous polka dot retro swimsuit.

Who is your favorite composer, or what is your favorite music genre for when you are designing?

I love music but I suppose folkish/acoustic music and old time classics like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.

What is your favorite dessert?

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

Living and working as a volunteer in Asia for 2 years.

Who are your heroes?

I love Oprah and find her very inspiring.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

The usual – a teacher!

What's been your most exciting/fulfilling/wonderful moment since launching?

Seeing the FLATOUTbears in great stores all over the world. Also, we get the most amazing feedback from customers who can’t live without the FLATOUTbears.

Do you have a favorite product from the range?

We only have FLATOUTbear and FLATOUTbearbaby and out of the two I think the classic FLATOUTbear in milk is my favourite.

Even Baby Ape's Love FLATOUTbears

Some time ago my father was visiting me in Los Angeles and I had signed up to do some volunteer work at the Gibbons Conservation Center and happily he came along. We spent the afternoon clearing brush away from the enclosures to keep the gorgeous singing ape's safe from any fire outbreaks.

I fell in love with the Gibbons and their gorgeous antics while there so was especially touched to see this photo which Prue (the FLATOUTbear founder) sent me!

About Gibbons

Native to the dwindling rain forests of Southeast, South, and East Asia, gibbons are arboreal and considered to be among the world's greatest acrobats. They have the ability to swing from tree to tree distances of 50 feet, at speeds of up to 35 mph, while in trees 200 feet above the ground. This mode of locomotion--swinging under branches while suspended by their hands--is called brachiating. Gibbons are one of the few monogamous primates, and whether on the ground or in the trees, they are known for their dexterity and ability to walk upright. Often referred to as the "songbirds" of the primate family and the most musical land mammal, gibbons can project their voices up to 2 miles through the dense rainforest canopy. Unfortunately, their natural habitat is being destroyed at the alarming rate of 32 acres per minute! This destruction shall guarantee the disappearance of their melodious songs as well.
